Evening Dress
Overview
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ The design features an eight-panel corset with sliding boning, creating a sculpted silhouette while providing support and flexibility.
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Side pleats add movement and dimension to the garment, contrasting with the structured corset and enhancing the overall contemporary aesthetic.
Draping
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ The design process began by draping the initial silhouette directly on a dress form to explore the corset shape, panel placement, and volume of the pleated sides.
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ This allowed me to experiment with proportions and refine the relationship between the fitted bodice and the flow of the skirt.
Prototyping
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Once the drape was finalized, the design was transferred into patterns, which were adjusted and developed to achieve the desired fit and construction details.
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ A half mockup was then created as a prototype to test the garment’s structure, corset shaping, and pleat placement before moving into the final construction.
Final Development
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ After making the necessary refinements, the final garment was cut and sewn using the chosen heavyweight linen fabric.
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ The completed piece represents the full design journey, from initial draping and pattern development to prototyping and final garment execution.
