Denim Dress

Contemporary Gown
Design Details
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎This contemporary denim gown that combines the structure of denim with the elegance of tailored suiting.
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ The gown features a denim corset with a dropped waistline, creating a sculpted silhouette that highlights the body’s natural form.
Draping Process
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ The eight-panel construction adds dimension and shape, while the wide pleated skirt made from black suiting fabric creates contrast, movement, and a refined contemporary feel.
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ The design process began by sketching out a basic design and then turning the sketch into a final illustration.
Pattern Development
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Then I started with draping the initial silhouette on a dress form to explore the corset structure, waist placement, and overall proportions.
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Through draping, I experimented with the balance between the fitted upper body and the volume of the skirt.
Prototype
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ The draped design was then transferred into patterns, which were refined and adjusted to achieve the desired fit and construction details.
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ A half mockup was created as a prototype to test the garment’s shape, panel placement, and pleat distribution before moving into the final stage.
Final Construction
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ After making the necessary adjustments, the final garment was constructed using denim and black suiting fabric.
°‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ This piece represents the full design journey from concept development and experimentation to patternmaking, prototyping, and final execution.
